Maker of the month / Waterside Crafts
Charlotte enjoys creating modern sculptures and pictures from recycled, found and repurposed materials and resin. She is a member of many online recycling groups where she sources many of her materials including all her bubble wrap packaging! Charlotte also enjoys beach combing on her nearby Portishead beaches and is often to be found walking home with armfuls of driftwood! Charlotte started her career as an early years teacher before retiring after 35 years to pursue her love of crafting. She now spends her time in her craft studio in Portishead creating, experimenting and making, she now has a much better work life balance and is significantly less stressed!
The colourful metal fish and bird sculptures she makes from recycled drinks cans you may be able to spot your favourite drink! (Clue- the white ones are her sons monster energy cans and she may have had to drink quite a few cans of wine to get the darker coloured fish!!)
Charlotte recently discovered she could make beautiful things by reusing old CD Roms too, she collects peoples unwanted CD Roms, cuts them up and melts them to make the beautiful fish, birds, seals, octopus, feathers and flowers, they are then mounted on recycled children’s building blocks or other recycled wood.
Charlotte also uses resin to make her funky black framed ice lolly, love and fish trio pictures.
